Dear John:
I am glad to know you plan to take your holiday in January. I would like to tell you this is the best time to travel in China as it is a month the Chinese people celebrate the Spring Festival. It would be fantastic to spend your time with a Chinese family to experience the traditional ways of celebrating the largest holiday. Although for foreigners the differences of the celebrations are not much, there are indeed significant differences between north and south, east and west and among the different national minorities. Therefore it would be a good idea to chose two different places to visit. You are welcome to join my family to celebrate the festival in your first week, and you can learn the ways on northern people celebrating Spring Festival. Then we can go to my friend's family near Guangzhou to stay with them for a few days.
I hope you can have at least three weeks to spend in China. I am looking forward to your coming.
